quick note about cheesecake recipe

I just wanted to state, since someone asked a question “What is custard powder?” I did not realize that US citizens don’t get such a thing! LOL! I did a Google search but could find no real equivalent to custard powder, although some sites did mention pudding mix. Custard powder is basically corn flour, salt and flavoring with a bit of tartrazine thrown in for good measure (LOL!) I checked the ingredients. It has a sweet pudding flavor. I reckon you could use a pre-boxed pudding mix, just use the same amount. Check the box ingredients, it should contain corn flour. I hope this helps! It’s hard to say what products differ from country to country!

Thanks!

Some specialty stores are now carrying the custard powder, but it's really an import over here. Oh, and we Yanks have to remember that biscuits are COOKIES over here too. :-)

They don't have custard powder???? Wow that is a stock standard thing here in Oz like you have it in S.A!!!! We have it here from when we are babies! I wonder what they call it? So funny I had no idea!

Corn flour is known as cornstarch in the US - is how I make homemade pudding - and eggyolks - but most folks make it with "Junket" - it is rennet - what I think you call custard powder - my Mom always made me baked egg custard - using rennet powder - we can't dinsd it anymore!
It is hard to find now - if anyone in the states reads this - please let me know if you find Junket/rennet powder - maybe Bonnie will post it - I am almost certain that is what custard flour is! Loves and hugs - Leslie's Mudder
