Colorful boats and salty air.

Hello there friends!
I know, it's been a while since I last posted!

Just wanted to quickly answer two questions that Rose asked in some previous posts.
She asked "where is this nursery?" from this post about Aspidistra Nursery.
Rose, it is on the Vlaeberg Road just off Badenpowel Drive. (as if you were going to Spier Wine farm). You also asked if if this was my first crochet cushion cover. Yes it was! I have been crocheting now for almost two years, but had not attempted a cushion cover before. If you can master a granny square, you can master anything in crochet-a blanket, cushion cover, bed spread...

Okay....

So The school holidays came and went and were just too short, but we are looking forward to 5 days of break coming up again as Friday is a public holiday and so is Tuesday so the school has made Monday a school holiday. Bliss!

The weekend was one I will remember for a long, long time.
I woke up Saturday morning with this incredible desire to be at a harbor. I wanted to smell the fresh, salty ocean air, hear the calls of the seagulls, taste some fresh hake and chips. I so badly Needed to see the colorful boats bobbing up and down in the bay...I asked my hubby if we could take a drive out for the day. It's a great thing I have such an amazing man that sucumbs to such whims of mine! The kids were so excited too when they heard what we had planned! We left a little before noon. Part of the fun of the day, was the spontaneousness of it. Along the way we stopped at some second hand antique shops. Fortunately both my kids LOVE antique shops. They love looking at old things (especially my son). We share a love of vintage things, things with history and meaning. Things that were solid, served a purpose and stood the test of time.

{but that is a post for another day!}

Finally though, we stopped in Kalk Bay. I just adore this town, one of the many in a string of little coastal towns.

We went to the little harbor there and had some fish and chips {so delicious!}

We walked on the pier, admiring the colorful boats in their reds, blues, yellows and greens, like Children's crayons.

It was fun to look at the names of the boats "Sea Breeze"; "Water Nymph"; "Jacob"; "Nuweland".

We watched some seals at play in the water, positioning themselves quite close to the steps where the fishermen were gutting their fresh fish-throwing the remains to the seals.

This cute little baby seal looked like he was waving to us!

There is just something fascinating in those fish traps. The colors and texture never fail to amaze me.

The freshly caught fish on sale at the dock.

Beautiful light filtering down amongst the boats, playing on the water.

I just love the bright green boat, contrasted with the crispness of the clear, blue sky and the turquoise of the sea.

We watched a fisherman catch this little guy who clearly did not make the mark, so he unhooked him and asked if my kids wanted to release him again, which they were only too happy to do!
{hubby helping my daughter with the squirming fish}

A little pic of me hubby took.

The last one taken from the top, looking down.

Well I hope you enjoyed my little sea adventure! It felt like we were on holiday. Strolling the harbor and pier, eating fish and chips. Later on browsing the cute little shops and stopping for a soft serve with flake ice-cream.

Do you like the ocean? Harbors? Are you a sea-gal {excuse the play on words!} like me. If so, what's your favorite thing? Would love to hear!xx

Yes Bonnie, as I am getting older I find the beach and sea has calming effects on me. Just sitting and watching the waves coming into shore and staring out to sea is so relaxing.

If only they could get rid of the sand and plant grass right to the waters edge, that would be heaven to me.

Your photos were great, love those colourful little boats. We don't have them so colourful....they're mainly white here.

Beautiful harbour shots, Bonnie! You are so lucky to live where you can so easily get to the sea for an afternoon, climb a mountain or go sip some wine in a vineyard!
Somedays I yearn for a place like that!

My mom-in-law and I are creative girls always looking for creative inspiration and Kalk Bay is one of our absolute favourite spots. We love the fish & chips at the harbour, coffee or soup at Olympia Cafe and then hit the road to check out all the lovely shops. we always seem to leave on a high. It is lovely to look at your beautiful pics and for a moment see it through the eyes of a tourist. tx for sharing. Nicki
